This photo was a challenge to restore. The photo was covered with scratches, creases, and tears. Using the Clone tool in GIMP, a popular photo editing software, I was able to remove the photo’s imperfections. The Clone tool in GIMP allows you to sample a specific portion in the photo and duplicate that portion elsewhere in the photo. You can simply think of it as a copy tool, copying portions of the photo from one place to another. I was able to take existing portions of the photo and copy them directly over the imperfections (scratches, creases, and tears). This image has been restored to its original quality using GIMP, a popular photo editing software. We started with a photograph that had a unwanted red tint. This type of distortion is called a color cast. A colour cast is a tint of a particular color, usually unwanted, which affects the whole of a photographic image evenly [wiki]. By modifying the red channel with the Curves tool, we were able to remove the color cast; restoring the color to this photo that time had taken away. We then proceeded to remove the scratches in the photo using the Clone tool in GIMP. We finished by applying a few slight enhancements to image.
